The award-winning star of film, television and stage will star opposite his wife Amy Madigan in the production, which first ran on Broadway in spring 2016 to critical acclaim.
Sam Shepard’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play BURIED CHILD is set in 1979 rural America, reeling from recession and political unrest, drawing inevitable comparison between then and now are compelling in the run up to the American Presidential Election. Casting a brutal light on disenfranchised Americans, BURIED CHILD is a dark, macabre and painfully funny family drama that is as relevant now as it was during its first run almost 40 years ago.
BURIED CHILD is from The New Group creative team that recently brought the smash-hit sold-out run of the Broadway transfer of The Spoils to London, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Kunal Nayyar, Alfie Allen, and Katie Brayben.
Five time Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Ed Harris boasts a wide range of film credits including A History of Violence, The Hours, The Truman Show, Apollo 13, The Adderall Diaries and much more. Harris made his directorial debut on the feature film Pollock, receiving an Academy Award nomination as Best Actor for his performance in the title role. He also directed, starred in and co-wrote the screenplay for Appaloosa.
On television, Harris will star in J.J. Abrams’ and Jonathan Nolan’s upcoming Westworld for HBO. When last on HBO, Harris won a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of John McCain in the Jay Roach-directed Game Change. His other TV credits include the HBO miniseries Empire Falls, The Last Innocent Man, Running Mates, Paris Trout and Riders of the Purple Sage.

The theatre was great, very comfortable even though it is quite small. The play was something of a surprise. We had no prior knowledge of the play or the playwright but are always willing to try something new. The plot unfolded slowly and it was difficult to see exactly where it was going - that in the end made it interesting. We have nothing but praise for the actors - they were excellent. The comic timing in this black comedy was superb. Ed Harris was brilliant - he was on stage for the whole play - hence, it being in three acts I guess. The other actors were marvellous without exception. Not a play to go and see if you are unwilling to just go with it and find the enjoyment, but rewarding if you approach it with a take it as it is attitude. Once couple in front of us complained constantly and left after the second act but it seemed they had decided five minutes in that they weren't going to enjoy anything about it - so they didn't. I would hesitate to recommend it to anyone just because it is very different, but we enjoyed it. As I say, first rate acting and some really comical moments. Certainly worth a try with an open mind.
Excellent play acting Ed Harris always the best
Great show and great acting, from all the cast.
Storm Doris put paid to my Thursday booking but I was lucky enough to snag tickets for Friday. This is a wonderful production, very atmospheric. Plenty of humourous moments alongside deep, deep darkness. Still thinking about it days later. Every cast member was marvellous and it's such a treat to be able to see the craft of Ed Harris and Amy Madigan up close. Lovely theatre with friendly, helpful staff. Recommended you get tickets before it ends... be quick!
Wonderful play and wonderful acting.
A very comically dark play with some impressive performances. Definitely worth seeing.
The play is very good - the script and the actors are excellent!
Buried Child is a thought provoking, visceral work which illuminates the paradox of grime and decay in everyday family life whilst exposing the unbreakable ties that hold it together, generation after generation through death, resurrection, death, resurrection. A stunning performance by the whole cast. I would give it 6 stars if I could.
excellent, would highly recommend it to any one who enjoys the theatre. great casting. it simply flew by and so great to see a true mega star up close and personal.
The acting is excellent, especially Ed Harris and his wife. the story is so-so, it describes the everyday life of the family very well, it is really dramatic. Surprisingly there is humor even in the darkest story, though. it was shocking but nice to be able to laugh on a dark story like this one. Unfortunately, there is not much closure or any outcome at the end. The theatre seat are very uncomfortable, thin cushions and there is no armrest in between them and they are not so wide either so you're squeezed to others sitting next to you. There is enough legroom, at least. The second and third row (A, B) are not raised so you cannot see very well. Buy ticket either first row or from row C. Finally, It would be nice to see people dress up appropriately to an event. (Faded or ripped jeans and jogging trousers, seriously?) Theatres should have a dress code, a bare minimum at least.
Acting excellent very compelling & gripped. Untimely confusing
Excellent play and performances; so glad I got the ticket and very easy to collect from theatre.
